Average age for marriage (Blog #1)
This week I learned that the average age for a women to get married is 28 and the average age for a man to get married is 30. Not everyone is going to be that exact age when they get married, it's still perfectly fine to get married at a young age. People may think that, let's say getting married at 19 is too young and you need to wait and date longer. But if you know you want to spend the rest of your life with that person even at a young age then do it. I myself was 19 when I got married and we didn't date super long, but we got to know each other and figure out along the way that it was meant to be. I certainly thought that I wouldn't get married till I was much older than that. My perspective before I got married was that I would get married at the average age, or hopefully a little younger than that to start having kids.
When I heard that 28 and 30 are the average age to get married that shocked me, I am not saying that is an old age in anyway. But the majority of people that I know get married in their early twenties and then start having kids a few years or even a year later. Then another thing that is surprising too is that every marriages on average in the U.S. only have one to two kids. Then again the majority of people that I know have three or more kids. Seeing people around me getting married young and eventually having lots of kids makes me think why is the average of marriage and kids what it is. Maybe I could be thinking of past generations and my aunts and uncles and this generation is taking their time to get married, which you should if you want.
Talking more on why these are the average ages for men and women to get married. For women, like I said the average age is twenty eight, there are many reasons for that being the average age. For one, this is the age that isn't too old or too young, it is a perfect middle ground. Because you have lived a little and done things before you get married. But that is different for everyone. Just because that is the average age that doesn't mean you have to be that age. That is just how old the average age is to get married. Twenty eight is the age that you will most likely not get a divorce in the first five years of marriage. But there are many people out there that get married younger than that and they are still together past the five years. The average age to get married is increasing little by little each year. I read in an article that women tend to get married younger than men because they were less likely to go to college and get a degree. The age is what it is now for marriage because more women are starting to go back to college.
Now the average age for men to get married is thirty for multiple reasons. First, because men want to get a degree and a good job before they get married. I am not saying that is exactly how it should be because again this situation is different for everyone. Some other things I found out about why this is the age for men is because, and this kind of goes for men and women, they are more likely to have had a lot of relationships before getting married to see what they want in a wife and same for the women. So the women can get experiences too, if that is what people want to do then great. Also a really good point for getting married just a little later in life is to figure out who you are, so then when you are married and when children come you will know what to do in your free time. My husbands mom started having kids when she was nineteen and all her kids have been out of the house for a while and now she doesn't know who she is. She was so young when she had kids that she never really figured out who she is. So that is another really good point to wait to get married. Or if you already are then wait to have kids, just figures yourself out.
